Which Treatment Should I Choose for My Facial Condition?

Patients often wonder which treatment to choose for their facial condition. One way of looking at it would be to draw an analogy with cleaning the kitchen floor. Back some years ago, we might have swept our kitchen floor daily, washed it monthly and scrubbed the old wax off, rewaxed and buffed twice a year. This is similar to using Obagi daily, having a peel or a facial monthly and having laser treatments annually. Of course, this comparison only goes so far, many of my patients laugh and say they never cleaned their floors that often. My younger patients look blank and say, "wax, buff?". Moreover, facials, peels and lasers can be done more or less frequently than monthly or yearly.

The important thing to understand is that lasers, peels, facials and daily skin care all have a role in making skin healthy and beautiful. The laser treatments are the most powerful and give the quickest results so they are often used for more severe conditions or when patients have an event to prepare for in the very near future. Peels and facials offer an intermediate degree of speed and improvement; they also offer an opportunity to interact regularly with an aesthetician or physician who can monitor your progress and guide your treatment. Daily skin care is essential to beautiful skin both now and in the future. Dr. Overman offers multiple treatment options for some common skin conditions. A free consultation can help you choose which option(s) might be best for you.
